Emily and Jessica’s story: Fostering a culture of knowledge sharing

The missing element is knowledge

According to Emily Anderson, transferring knowledge openly across all departments is a core part of the company culture at Thermo Fisher Scientific. When Emily was hired to be Jessica Floyd’s supervisor, the two got to work right away. Jessica, already familiar with the company from her time as an intern, quickly helped Emily get up to speed on the team’s processes.

In the analytical research and development department, Emily and Jessica formed a strong team. Jessica later transitioned to a QC lab supervisor role, where she found herself applying many of the techniques she had honed in analytical research and development. She frequently sought Emily’s guidance, asking questions like, “This IPC, the way it’s written, doesn’t deliver the same results on a larger scale.” Emily would respond, “Okay, great feedback — let’s fix the method.”

These collaborations enhance the overall flexibility of the site. Sharing knowledge between teams ensures that information reaches clients faster, who can then incorporate it into clinical trial protocols more quickly. This ultimately translates into safe and effective medicines that help patients in need. Watch our video to learn more about our culture of knowledge sharing.
